<h2>From Motocross Championships to Ebike Pioneering</h2>
<p>Jim Turner’s obsession with high-performance handling didn&#8217;t start in a lab; it started on the national motocross circuit. A three-time National Champion, Jim spent his youth riding &#8220;Works&#8221; bikes—bespoke machines hand-built by factory teams specifically for their riders.</p>
<p><em>&#8220;In racing, the bike has to be perfect. It’s a very human-machine interaction,&#8221;</em> Turner says. <em>&#8220;I’ve always tried to emulate that in Optibike by giving people an experience where the bike is truly tuned for them.&#8221;</em></p>
<h2>The Corporate Defector: Leaving Ford for Creative Freedom</h2>
<p>After graduating from Stanford with a degree in design engineering, Jim landed a prestigious role at Ford, working on electronic shock absorbers. Despite having unlimited resources, he found the bureaucratic environment stifling.</p>
<p>Jim realized that in a large corporation, innovation is often slowed by a fear of failure. He chose to trade the unlimited budget of the corporate world for the freedom of a small business, where he could prototype, fail, and iterate in real-time. This &#8220;bulldog personality&#8221; allowed him to weather the 12-year gap between his first prototype in 1995 and his first commercial sale in 2007.</p>
<h2>A Family Legacy in Paonia, Colorado</h2>
<p>Today, Optibike is a true family affair. Jim’s sons, Austin and Nicholas, have grown up in the shop and now bring their own specialized expertise to the G Series and the R22ET Everest:</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a title="e bike" href="https://biketowork2014.org" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bike To Work Day in Boulder</a> is always an exciting time for us at Optibike. It&#8217;s a little extra special of a commute to and from work compared to most other days I commute on my Optibike electric bike. It&#8217;s like a 2nd summer holiday with so many people on bikes having a fun groovy time, smiling and laughing, dancing to the music at breakfast locations and hoping to win prizes at the giveaways. What better way to celebrate summer right before the 4th of July Holiday, than to participate in Bike to Work Day.<span id="more-10265"></span></p>
<p>My day started by waking up a bit earlier than usual so I could see as many bike to work<a href="https://optibike.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/R11_slider_v2.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="alignright wp-image-677 size-medium" src="https://optibike.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/R11_slider_v2-300x105.jpg" alt="electric bike" width="300" height="105" /></a> locations as possible from 6:30 am to 9:30 am&#8230;.and who doesn&#8217;t love a FREE breakfast. I strategically mapped out my breakfast locations as I prepared to leave for the day. My 1st stop of the day was at Whole Foods started where I had delicious blueberry lemon pancakes with maple syrup. I ended with my 4th stop of the day at Natural Grocers Vitamin Cottage, where I had excellent Chai tea and granola.</p>
<p>There were lots and lots of people on bikes, around 30,000 cyclists participated. It was fun seeing so many people of all ages on regular road bikes, mountain bikes, recumbents and electric bikes. So awesome to see more people open and willing even if it&#8217;s just one day to leave the car keys at home and jump on their bike to commute to and from work. There was even a few locations that had music playing, which made it fun to jam out a bit while eating breakfast at each stop along the way.</p>
<p>I really enjoy commuting to and from work whether it&#8217;s Bike To Work Day or any other day because it provides me a solid foundation to start my day with a good work out, high energy and sharp focus for a productive work day. I arrive to work energized, de-stressed and refreshed. At the same time, it is meaningful to me to reduce my carbon footprint and leave the car keys at home. I would rather stay fit, get some good exercise than sit in a car with traffic delays any day of the week. <p>Bike To Work Day is everyday for me at Optibike. Just too bad not everyday I can get FREE breakfast along the way. LOL! It&#8217;s all good!</p>

Last night my family and I were invited to the Steve Winwood concert  in Denver. Steve’s manger, James has been an <a href="https://optibike.com">Optibike</a> rider for many years and they provided us some great tickets in the center, just 8 rows back. <a href="https://optibike.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Windwood-Concert-11-20-12.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-595" title="Windwood Concert 110-12" src="https://optibike.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Windwood-Concert-11-20-12.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="177" /></a></p>
<p>The views and sound were great. After the show, we met up with James and Steve backstage and I gave them both Optibike shirts.</p>
<p>James received his Optibike as a birthday present from Steve and  uses it to commute the 16 miles to the studio each day with 2000 feet of climbing. Lots of days of rain and drizzle as it is England.  It sounds like a great area in the north west of England.</p>
<p>I found Steve and I had several points in common. Steve lives on a 1000 acre farm, though mine is only ten acres, and our kids are about the same age.</p>
<p>What we don’t have in common is musical ability. I have none, and Steve is incredibly versatile. My music is designing electric bikes! James was talking about how great a new <a href="https://optibike.com/optibike-r15c-electric-bike-fit-and-sizing/">1100</a> would be.</p>
