Where do you find 10 extra hours?
It’s easy with an Electric Bike!

Here’s an Example:
Eric’s 16 mile commute through city traffic takes about 1 hour in his car.
It also takes about 1 hour on his Optibike.

Eric burns about 1000 calories per day by commuting 1 hour each way on his Optibike, with no extra time commitment!

That’s 25lbs of fat burned each year!

The surprising health outcome

The aging process is a combination of two factors. One is the normal aging process as we all get older. The second factor is our life style contributions. This is where the Optibike can reduce the aging process and make your life a more full and vital life, even into your eighties.

Some good news about aging are these following results from a recent Swedish Study: they found that exercise is the #1 contribution to youth, longevity, and reversing the aging process. And that these health benefits can happen even if we don’t start exercising until later in life!

We know that people who are physically active are much less likely than sedentary people to develop heart disease, diabetes, cancer, stroke, depression, disabilities in old age, or to die prematurely.

And yet most people do not get enough exercise to keep them young.

Statistics show that despite its multiple benefits, a majority of us never exercise. When researchers ask why, most people state the same two reasons — they don’t have time to squeeze exercise into their lives, or they aren’t fit enough to undertake exercise.

How can we get the exercise we need in a fun and exhilarating way?

Optibike Electric bicycles are a positive and powerful option that allows people to get exercise in a fun and exhilarating way. These are fast electric bikes and long range electric bikes. Their motors shore up your pedaling making hill climbing or riding long distances exhilarating, rather than daunting like a ride on a standard bike. Optibikes allow people with jammed daily schedules to get the strong benefits of a work-out as they cycle to and from work, using an E-bike for transportation.

With a Long Range Electric bike you control your experience and can start from where your fitness level is at.

With a long range Electric bike the rider is able to get the exact amount of exertion that is comfortable for them. They are able to ride longer distances over more varied terrain and have fun in the process. No longer are they intimidated by hills, head winds or long distances.

They can arrive at work without breaking a sweat. And if a person doesn’t feel fit enough to exercise, fast and long range Electric bikes allow the rider to build up their fitness step-by-step, starting from where they are and quickly gain a momentum for health.

My Optibike is awesome. It is a 20 mile ride into Portland for me. I climb a massive hill and breeze up there quite swiftly. I have so much fun and the Optibike is a blast. I have an attached trailer that I pick up a 50 pound bag of dog food and ride 20 miles each way to get it back home.

The three ways an E-bike helps reduce the aging process

There are three areas where riding an E bike will increase your health and reduce the aging process.

Strength and weight loss

Cardio Vascular and Aerobic Fitness

Vestibular (Balance)

1) E-bike riding reverses the aging process by increasing Strength and contributing to weight loss.

Regular riding of an E-bike will increase your leg strength and stimulate weight loss. Because people generally ride longer on an E-bike with the ability to control their experience, they gain more strength and lose weight, which then gives them more energy in their life.

All kinds of people are buying E-bikes because they are FUN, which means people are out there riding a lot - with the outcome of achieving a higher level of strength.

But FUN doesn’t even really cover the magnitude of E-bike riding. For instance, you don’t sit on an Optibike and do nothing. People often miss the point – Optibike Electric bikes aren’t about making what you do easier, it’s about exhilaration bordering on magic and, getting more ground covered for your time and calories.

What’s amazing is that you can actually get the same or stronger workout that you get on a traditional bike, but with more exhilaration and fun. You just go faster and farther.

With an E-bike you control your experience.

At 63 years old, the Optibike has indeed transformed my life and mobility! My full suspension R11 performs gracefully and responsively on the trails and slick rock terrain around my home near Moab Utah, riding like the wind. It has vastly enhanced the range and just plain enjoyment and delight of my rides, and gets me through rough and steep terrain that previously had me walking my non-electric mountain bike.

Bob L. Moab, Utah

2) E-bike Riding strengthens Cardio Health and Aerobic Capacity for reversing the aging process.

With an Electric Bike you will easily improve your aerobic capacity like no other form of exercise can do. The best way to improve the aerobic capacity is with long slow distance exercise in your aerobic heart range (the range where you can exercise and talk comfortably)

When exercising in your aerobic range you will burn fat, increase mitochondria in the muscles and increase the size of the blood vessels - the basics for improved overall health.

The problem for most people who are not fit is that riding a regular bicycle will quickly put them out of the aerobic range into the anaerobic range, this is not good. In the anaerobic range they are out or breathe, burning sugars instead of fat for fuel, and are feeling the burn in their muscles from lactic acid buildup. They have long recovery periods and stop exercising.

All this is eliminated with a long range electric bike. The rider is able to control their heart rate in the aerobic region, by adding electric bike motor power. They ride longer (burning more fat) have more fun and have short recovery times so they ultimately ride much more than with a conventional bike. Their health rapidly improves.

3) E-bike riding reverses the aging process by strengthening the Vestibular (Balance).

The role of the Vestibular in our health is essential. The vestibular is responsible for balance and spatial orientation and it utilizes our core muscles, especially the core muscles of our back. It makes us detect and feel our ‘speed’ while we are moving, so that our muscles can respond and make minute adjustments for spatial positioning to stay upright. It also has a direct effect on essential life systems, such as respiration, the GI system, and heart rate.

The Vestibular functions mostly in our inner ear as a sense organ that is shaped like a spiral, and this is covered with tiny hairs surrounded by fluid. The fluid bends the hairs as we move our head side-to-side, up and down, or with speed. These bent hairs note our ‘position’ spatially, and then our neuro-biology reads this info to employ our core muscle tone and coordination to adjust our balance.

It’s essential to keep the vestibular primed all through life for a keen, strong responsiveness to any movement.

The main way to prime the vestibular is ‘moving fast’ – just like all the spinning and rocking and running we did as a child which fully developed our vestibular early on.

One of the most FUN ways to keep the vestibular strong as an adult is E-bike riding.

E-bike riding is extremely beneficial for the vestibular. With an Optibike you can ride on varied terrain easily, or ride fast on straight lines, and feel comfortable with the stable sport handling of the bike with an ability to stop on a dime with the disc brakes. This will keep your core muscle tone strong, which in turn, functions as support for good coordination and balance.

When choosing an E-bike it’s important to choose one that has stable handling for the speed. An Optibike is one of the most stable handling E-bikes available. Riders say they feel like a kid again.

I commute to work on my Optibike Allroad, which I really enjoy. The commute is just shy of 32 miles round trip.

My regular non-cycling commute consists of driving to the light rail station and hopping on the F Line train. Door to door the train ride is about 75 minutes each way.

Riding the Optibike Allroad takes about 60 minutes so in addition to burning calories. I save time 15 minutes per trip (and probably CO2). I keep track of calories burned, pulse rate etc. using a fitness watch. Cycling burns about an extra 1100 calories per day which is a terrific benefit.

Dave. Denver, CO

Conclusion

Riding a long range Electric Bicycle leads to a higher level of endurance, stamina, strength, and allows you to get in shape, reverse the aging process, and do it faster. Fast Electric bikes are a new dimension in cycling and the best part is that it gives you the ability to go out and ride any time you want to.

By using your own strength supported by new technology even long routes and steep mountain climbs are not beyond reach as you enjoy the thrill of adventure and robust riding while getting stronger and fitter, and reversing the aging process.

He has replaced his commute via car or light rail with an Optibike Allroad. He is now burning off fat, and saving time and money. Riding the Allroad is faster than the light rail and burns off 1100 calories. ( Burning 1100 calories per day can result in 6 pounds of weight loss per month) How does he do it? Read his story below:

Last week I was able to commute to work on my Allroad, which I really enjoy. The commute is just shy of 32 miles round trip from where I live in Centennial to downtown Denver where I work and is mostly over side streets so I avoid riding in heavy traffic.

I have a pass for the train that is $36 per month. If I drive it takes about 45 minutes assuming moderate traffic but parking is minimum $10. Gas is about $4 per day.

All and all the Allroad has performed very well; Mariane and I both think riding the Allroad is a hoot. I also just passed 1000 miles on my Allroad.

The top ten reasons to own an ebike are counted down from ten to one. They are in no particular ranking order. You get to decide which is more important than another.

10.	Good for the Environment. Since the electric bike uses no gasoline, it does not produce poisonous fumes like an automobile would. The battery is environmentally friendly and takes mere pennies to charge.

9.	Less expensive than cars. When you consider all the costs to own a car, the electric bike is much more reasonable. It is estimated that the total cost of operating an automobile is 10 cents a mile and includes its maintenance, gasoline, oil and upkeep. An Optibike electric bike gets the energy equivalent of 2500 mpg.

8.	Useful for hill climbing. Whether it is the summer heat or long distances, climbing hills can be a challenge. With a simple flick of a switch, the hill can soon be a pleasant memory.

7.	Arrive for work without needing a shower and cool down. For the commuter, an electric bike can mean arriving to work without the exhaustion and perspiration normally found when depending on pedaling alone.

6.	Great Exercise. Riding a bicycle can provide good movement for exercising without the trauma to knees and legs other forms of exercise give. An electric bike can ease the pain of exercise and make it enjoyable again. For more on this, visit: www.electricbikefitness.com

5.	No need for driver’s license, insurance and license plate. Electric bicycles are lawful for use on most roads and the cyclist must obey the traffic laws just as motorists. E-bikes can be insured, but it is not required. There is no requirement for a driver’s license or state license plates. Check with your local, state and federal laws.

4.	Faster and less effort involved than a standard bicycle. Even the most seasoned of cyclists can sometimes get tired. When the cyclist has reached the end of the energy level provided by the last meal, turn the motor on for the bicycle and enjoy the rest of the ride.

3.	Battery recharges for pennies. The normal charge time for the battery is ~5 hours and uses very little power.

2.	Easier to maintain than automobiles. Since the Optibike MBB is sealed, there is no need to lubricate it and fill it up with gas.

1.	Many models to choose from. No matter what requirements you are looking for in the perfect electric bike, there is one built just for you. At Optibike, each bike is hand made to fit you perfectly.

These are a few of the reasons for owning an Optiibike electric bike. All or some should appeal to everyone interested in saving money and time.

A car coming towards you makes a left turn right in front of you, or right into you. This is similar to #1.

How to avoid this collision:

1. Don’t ride on the sidewalk. When you come off the sidewalk to cross the street, you’re invisible to turning motorists.

2. Get a headlight. If you’re riding at night, you should absolutely use a front headlight. It’s required by law in most countries, anyway.

3. Wear something bright, even during the day. It may seem silly, but bikes are small and easy to see through even during the day. Yellow or orange reflective vests really make a big difference. Reflective leg bands are also easy and inexpensive.

4. Don’t pass on the right. Don’t overtake slow-moving vehicles on the right. Doing so makes you invisible to left-turning motorists at intersections. Passing on the right means that the vehicle you’re passing could also make a right turn right into you, too.

5. Slow down. If you can’t make eye contact with the driver (especially at night), slow down so much that you’re able to completely stop if you have to. Sure, it’s inconvenient, but it beats getting hit.

Collision Type #7: The Rear End

You innocently move a little to the left to go around a parked car or some other obstruction in the road, and you get nailed by a car coming up from behind.

How to avoid this collision:

1. Never, ever move left without looking behind you first. Some motorists like to pass cyclists within mere inches, so moving even a tiny bit to the left unexpectedly could put you in the path of a car. Practice holding a straight line while looking over your shoulder until you can do it perfectly. Most new cyclists tend to move left when they look behind them, which of course can be disastrous.

2. Don’t swerve in and out of the parking lane if it contains any parked cars. You might be tempted to ride in the parking lane where there are no parked cars, dipping back into the traffic lane when you encounter a parked car. This puts you at risk for getting nailed from behind. Instead, ride a steady, straight line in the traffic lane.

3. Use a mirror. If you don’t have one, go to a bike shop and get one now. There are models that fit on your handlebars, helmet, or glasses, as you prefer. You should always physically look back over your shoulder before moving left, but having a mirror still helps you monitor traffic without constantly having to look behind you.

Collision type #8: The Rear End, Part 2

A car runs into you from behind. This is what many cyclists fear the most, but it’s not the most common kind of accident (except maybe at night, or on long-distance rides outside the city). However, it’s one of the hardest collisions to avoid, since you’re not usually looking behind you. The best way to avoid this one is to ride on very wide roads or in bike lanes, or on roads where the traffic moves slowly.

How to avoid this collision:

1. Get a rear light. If you’re riding at night, you absolutely should use a flashing red rear light. Bruce Mackey (formerly of Florida, now head of bike safety in Nevada) says that 60% of bike collisions in Florida are caused by cyclists riding at night without lights. In 1999, 39% of deaths on bicycles nationwide occurred between 6 p.m. and midnight. [USA Today, 102-01, attributed to the Insurance Institute for highway safety]

Bike shops have red rear blinkies for $15 or less. These kind of lights typically take two AA batteries, which last for months (something like 200 hours). I can’t stress this item enough: If you ride at night, get a rear light!

2. Wear a reflective vest or a safety triangle. High quality reflective gear makes you a lot more visible even in the day time, not just at night. I had a friend ride away from me while wearing one during the day, and when she was about a quarter mile away, I couldn’t see her or her bike at all, but the vest was clearly visible. At night the difference is even greater. Bike shops have vests and triangles for $10 to $15. Also, when you hear a motorist approaching, straightening up into a vertical position will make your reflective gear more noticeable.

3. Choose wide streets. Ride on streets whose outside lane is so wide that it can easily fit a car and a bike side by side. That way a car may zoom by you and avoid hitting you, even if they didn’t see you!

4. Choose slow streets. The slower a car is going, the more time the driver has to see you. I navigate the city by going through neighborhoods. Learn how to do this.

5. Use back streets on weekends. The risk of riding on Friday or Saturday night is much greater than riding on other nights because all the drunks are out driving around. If you do ride on a weekend night, make sure to take neighborhood streets rather than arterials.

6. Get a mirror. Get a mirror and use it. If it looks like a car doesn’t see you, hop off your bike and onto the sidewalk. Mirrors cost $5-15. Trust me, once you’ve ridden a mirror for a while, you’ll wonder how you got along without it. My paranoia went down 80% after I got a mirror. If you’re not convinced, after you’ve used your mirror for a month, take it off your bike and ride around and notice how you keep glancing down to where your mirror was, and notice how unsafe you feel without it.

7. Don’t hug the curb. This is counter-intuitive, but give yourself a little space between yourself and the curb. That gives you some room to move into in case you see a large vehicle in your mirror approaching without moving over far enough to avoid you. Also, when you hug the curb tightly you’re more likely to suffer a right cross from motorists who can’t see you.

Collision Type #9: The Crosswalk Slam

You’re riding on the sidewalk and cross the street at a crosswalk, and a car makes a right turn, right into you. Cars aren’t expecting bikes in the crosswalk, so you have to be VERY careful to avoid this one

How to avoid this collision:

1. Get a headlight. If you’re riding at night, you should absolutely use a front headlight. It’s required by law, anyway.

2. Slow down. Slow down enough that you’re able to completely stop if necessary.

3. Don’t ride on the sidewalk in the first place. Crossing between sidewalks can be a fairly dangerous maneuver. If you do it on the left-hand side of the street, you risk getting slammed as per the diagram. If you do it on the right-hand side of the street, you risk getting slammed by a car behind you that’s turning right. You also risk getting hit by cars pulling out of parking lots or driveways. These kinds of accidents are hard to avoid, which is a compelling reason to not ride on the sidewalk in the first place.

And another reason not to ride on the sidewalk is that you’re threatening to pedestrians. Your bike is as threatening to a pedestrian as a car is threatening to you. Finally, riding on the sidewalk is illegal in some places. (In Austin, those places are the Drag, and downtown on 6th St. and on Congress). If you do plan on riding on sidewalks, do it slowly and EXTRA carefully, ESPECIALLY when crossing the street between two sidewalks.

Collision Type #10: The Wrong Way Wallop

You’re riding the wrong way (against traffic, on the left-hand side of the street). A car makes a right turn from a side street, driveway, or parking lot, right into you. They didn’t see you because they were looking for traffic only on their left, not on their right. They had no reason to expect that someone would be coming at them from the wrong direction.

Even worse, you could be hit by a car on the same road coming at you from straight ahead of you. They had less time to see you and take evasive action because they’re approaching you faster than normal (because you’re going towards them rather than away from them). And if they hit you, it’s going to be much more forceful impact, for the same reason. (Both your and their velocities are combined.)

How to avoid this collision:

1) Don’t ride against traffic. Ride with traffic, in the same direction.

Riding against traffic may seem like a good idea because you can see the cars that are passing you, but it’s not. Here’s why:

Cars which pull out of driveways, parking lots, and cross streets (ahead of you and to the left), which are making a right onto your street, aren’t expecting traffic to be coming at them from the wrong way. They won’t see you, and they’ll plow right into you.

How the heck are you going to make a right turn?

Cars will approach you at a much higher relative speed. If you’re going 15mph, then a car passing you from behind doing 35 approaches you at a speed of only 20 (35-15). But if you’re on the wrong side of the road, then the car approaches you at 50 (35+15), which is 250% faster! Since they’re approaching you faster, both you and the driver have lots less time to react. And if a collision does occur, it’s going to be ten times worse.

Riding the wrong way is illegal and you can get ticketed for it. Bruce Mackey says that 25% of cycling collisions are the result of the cyclist riding the wrong way.

There’s one possible exception to riding the wrong way. When you’re riding in the country on narrow, high-speed roads, it may be helpful to ride against traffic so you can see what you’re up against. Compared to city traffic, country traffic is likely to have less roadspace for bikes and cars to share. That being the case, riding the wrong way allows you to bail into the shoulder if a car doesn’t see you. You don’t have problem #1 above because side traffic is rare, and #2 is avoided because you’re riding primarily along one road and not turning right.

Country traffic is more likely to be sparse, which means that you may have the ability to switch to the “correct” side of the road when a car approaches you from ahead. I did a 100-mile ride with a friend once, continually switching from the left-hand side of the road to the right-hand side depending on whether traffic was approaching us from ahead or behind, since a vehicle passed us only once every several minutes — but when it passed us, it was doing 70mph+, and we wanted to be as far away from it as we could. But remember that vehicles will still approach you faster when you ride the wrong way, and it’s still illegal. It’s your choice.

I also know people who are working to get fit, and the Optibike lets them pedal as much as they comfortably can. What we have seen is that these riders build muscle, burn fat, and enjoy increased balance and coordination because the Optibike lets them work at a level that is comfortable for them making the experience enjoyable overall.
Electric bikes make cycling fun for a wide range of people. For example, I know people who are VERY FIT who use the electric assist to make long distance commuting possible at higher speeds. Because the Optibike is designed to be pedaled, and most riders pedal, you get the same workout you would on a traditional bike: you can just travel faster.

The Optibike simply makes exercise fun for people of all fitness levels. Not everyone can pedal up hills on a bicycle, but that should not prevent them from riding and doing what they can. An electric bike makes cycling, and all the wonderful benefits to your body, accessible to nearly everyone.

An important distinction: Only the Optibike uses the Patented Motorized Bottom Bracket (MBB) so the motor is in harmony with the rider. Because of this revolutionary concept, only the Optibike preserves the fitness benefits of E-biking.

With the MBB, the motor is constantly matched to your pedaling speed so you will never have to “outrun” the motor. While other E-bikes have pedals, many operate much like a scooter. The Optibike is first and foremost a bike, designed by people who understand the fundamentals of cycling.

I hope this answers your question Bill,

Happy riding,

CNNHealth.com recently reported that over 100 million Americans vow to lose weight as part of their new year’s resolutions. And roughly 4 out of every 5 fail to keep that resolution. Those aren’t the kind of odds most of us would lay bets on at the craps table. Not if we wanted to win anyway. So why are so many people falling off the weight loss bandwagon? There are obviously many reasons but one may be the countless myths surrounding weight loss and dieting. If we don’t know fact from fiction how we can make healthy choices? Without healthy decisions how will we lose weight and keep it off? In an effort to debunk weight loss lore below are 7 common weight loss myths and the real truth behind each of them. 7.

7. Certain foods help you lose weight faster.
This myth became popular with diets like the Grapefruit Diet and the Cabbage Soup Diet. The truth is no particular food helps you get slim faster than others. It comes down to eating right and getting exercise.

And weight loss simply takes time. 1 pounds per week is about average but remember you have a much better chance of keeping those pounds off when you do it slowly!

6. How you lose weight is not important – it’s just important to lose the weight.

This may not be a myth so much as it is a hope for many of us. While we may not be willing to admit it there are lots of us out there who have tried “fad” diets in hopes of losing 30 pounds in a month, or a week or some very short amount of time. Pounds that we shed gradually have a better chance of staying gone than any weight we can lose on “fad” or “crash” diets. https://www.webmd.com/diet/guide/the-truth-about-fad-diets

5. Video games are bad for you.
While this may be true of some video games there is one that can give us all a good workout, the Wii Fit. It’s definitely a great way to start exercising.

Many people who use the Wii Fit have said it has helped them try exercises they normally would not. Because most of the activities are low-intensity the Wii may not be the long-term answer for a lifelong exercise habit but since more Americans are out of shape than ever before it’s at least a place to start. The Self Growth web site has a great article about Wii workouts: https://www.selfgrowth.com/articles/The_Wii_Workout_Can_it_Help_You_Lose_Weight.html

4. Stop eating carbs.
This is another myth spread by countless diets in the last decade. Think “South Beach Diet”, “Atkins Diet”, “The Zone”, etc. Limiting some carbohydrates can be healthy (for instance eliminating the simple carbohydrates of refined sugars like those found in sodas and candy bars) but not eating any carbohydrates is not sustainable.

Plus the long-term effects of this type of nutritional restriction aren’t fully understood so it seems wisest to eat a balanced diet and limit the amount of refined sugars we eat. You can find more information at https://girliegirlarmy.com/blog/20090101/weight-loss-myths-and-juice-fast-tips/

3. Cravings aren’t real – use your willpower and don’t give in to them.
Many of us have a sweet tooth and find it pulls us off track during our weight loss endeavors. Yet others of us crave a big fat steak and beat ourselves up when we finally cave and eat one. While it isn’t wise to give into these cravings all the time, there is a way to wean ourselves off of sugar and/or fat while we lessen the frequency and intensity of our cravings.

The key is to gradually eat less of the sugary and fatty goods so our bodies adjust. Then when our cravings do strike it takes less sugar and less fat to satisfy our taste buds. Over time if we replace the fat and sugar in our diet with healthier options our food desires will fade.

2. Cutting back on calories alone is enough to lose weight.

The real key to losing weight is to consume fewer calories then you are using during the day. The easiest way to do this? Get a good workout in several times a week and shed some calories.

1. Riding an electric bike isn’t much of a workout, or is it?
At first glance it may seem like riding an electric bike doesn’t offer the same cardio exercise that a pedestrian bike offers but that first glance would be wrong.

An electric bike like the Optibike provides an excellent workout because you can ride longer, rack up more miles and go further than you can on a non-electric bike.

Many people who ride e-bikes like the Optibike can use them for commuting – something they can’t do normally. An Optibike makes a 40 mile commute possible for anyone – even people who aren’t in great shape and aren’t 25 years old anymore.

Take Pierrino Moscarino for example. At 69 years of age he easily makes 45-50 mile commutes part of his daily activities.

Click here to learn more about Optibike’s widest selection of electric bikes. From entry level e bikes like the Pioneer Allroad to the R11 Offroad Mountain Bike, you’ll find the perfect electric bicycle to meet your needs and your wallet.
