Announcing the new Optibike PowerStorm™ MBB Mid-drive Motor

This is a totally new motor that we’ve developed over the last three years, it sets a new standard in electric bike performance.

Optibike has always been the leader in high performance electric bikes, when we first introduced the original MBB in 2007 it was the highest performance motor available.

The new Optibike PowerStorm™ extends that performance and makes a much better package.

With the PowerStorm™ we’ve increased the diameter to 128 millimeters and reduced the weight 10 percent, we’re able to put a bigger motor inside, and it has bigger gears for more reliability.

It runs much quieter and it’s much smoother than the old versions, all of this gives us the platform for much more power.

The new PowerStorm™ is in our elite series of bikes, and we build the motor and the bikes here in Colorado.

Optibike is the only E-Bike company to build its own motor, and there’s a reason we do this; we need more performance.

We develop our own motor because we can control the performance:

  • Highest power to weight or volume in industry, other mid drives are pretty big and they’re very low powered. It’s important to keep the drive small because then you can have the battery sit lower in the frame, which improves handling.
  • 2500 watts of peak power.
  • 1750 watts of continuous power.
  • 190 newton meters of torque, two and a half times most other motors.

The motor housing, internals, and gears are machined from solid billet 6061 aluminum, there are no castings, and they’re built one at a time by hand here in Colorado and put in our elite series bikes.

This all gives superior performance and that’s what Optibike is all about.
