May 13, 2014

In July 2014 two Optibike riders will become the first electric bike riders to ride the 9,000 Mongol Rally from England to Mongolia. Austen Gavlak and Schellwill ride Optibike R8 e-bikes with BOB Trailers.

To achieve their goal of 150 miles a day and to complete the 9,000 miles in two months, they will be using extra batteries in their trailers. The route will traverse every kind of terrian know to man. From Eurpean streets to high deserts is the ‘stnas”. This is truely a test of man and machine. Usually this ride is done by teams in cars or scotters, this is a first for an elecric bike.

The Optibike R8 electric bicycle was chosen because of its outstanding durability and long range capabilities. The R8 has the longest range of any elecric bike made in the world. Follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and the Electric Bike Blog to learn more about their journey and follow the Optibike team as they make their way through this epic adventure. The team will update us with stories and tips for riding your electric bike, so stay tuned this summer.
